Sometimes there is no standard solution.

The product is the wrong size. The mounting hardware doesn't work with the existing structure. An old fixture was installed in a way that makes it extremely difficult to remove. A replacement doesn't quite fit the existing opening. A customer needs something installed in a location where nobody makes the right bracket or support.

These are the types of projects where GALAXSAW can be different from a typical handyman service.

I specialize in finding practical solutions to unusual installation, repair, modification, and mounting problems. When a standard installation doesn't work, I look at what is actually in front of me, determine what is preventing the project from working, and figure out whether the existing product, space, or structure can be modified to create a workable solution.

When the Standard Solution Doesn't Work

Not every home improvement problem can be solved by purchasing the correct item from a store.

Sometimes the correct product simply doesn't exist.

Sometimes the product exists, but it wasn't designed for your particular space.

Sometimes the existing construction is different from what the manufacturer expected.

And sometimes the product is already purchased and returning it isn't practical.

Instead of immediately deciding that something cannot be done, GALAXSAW can evaluate the situation and look for another way.

The solution may involve modifying an existing component, creating a support, adding a bracket, building an insert, changing the mounting method, or using a material for a purpose different from its original design.

The goal isn't to make something complicated. The goal is to find a practical solution that works.

Real Examples of Unusual Solutions

Over the years, I've encountered projects where the normal installation method simply wasn't an option.

One customer had an older wall-mounted range hood that several other contractors had been unable to remove. The challenge wasn't installing a new hood—it was figuring out how the existing hood had originally been installed and determining how to safely remove it.

Another customer wanted a commercial-style lock installed on a wooden gate. The lock wasn't designed for the existing gate configuration, so the installation required modifications to the gate and a different approach to mounting the hardware.

I've also modified stainless-steel range hood chimneys when the factory dimensions didn't work with the actual kitchen installation.

In another project, a customer had purchased a cooktop that was slightly too small for the existing countertop opening. Returning the cooktop wasn't an option. Instead of abandoning the installation, I created an insert/support solution that allowed the cooktop to be supported properly without leaving the glass unsupported around the opening.

These aren't necessarily complicated projects because of the materials involved. They are complicated because the normal installation instructions don't solve the actual problem in front of you.

Custom Brackets, Supports & Inserts

A missing mounting point doesn't always mean the project cannot be completed.

Sometimes the solution is a simple custom bracket. Other times it may be a support, spacer, insert, mounting board, reinforcement, or other component made specifically for the situation.

For example, I've created solutions using ordinary building materials to provide a mounting surface where one didn't exist.

In one commercial project, a business needed to divide a large room using hanging plastic strips. There was no convenient structure where the strips could be attached. I created a mounting structure by installing a large wood board between the existing walls and attaching the plastic strips to that new support.

The solution didn't require a complicated manufactured product. It required looking at the space differently.

Making Existing Products Work

One of the most useful parts of this service is modifying something you already own rather than replacing it simply because it doesn't fit perfectly.

A product may be completely functional but incompatible with your particular space.

In some situations, it may be possible to modify the installation rather than modify the product itself. In others, the product may need a carefully considered adjustment or additional support.

This can apply to:

I've built simple custom solutions for situations like this.

One example was a ceiling-mounted clothing-drying system. Instead of permanently occupying the space, I created a setup using a metal hanging tube and supporting wires that could swing upward and remain near the ceiling when not needed, then be lowered when the customer wanted to use it.

This type of project is not about buying the most expensive product. It is about making the available space work better.

When Something Is Difficult to Remove

Custom problem solving isn't only about installing something new.

Sometimes the problem is getting the old thing out.

Older fixtures and installations can use mounting methods, fasteners, brackets, or construction techniques that aren't immediately obvious. A product that looks like it should take a few minutes to remove can turn into a much more complicated project.

If other contractors have already looked at an item and determined that they cannot remove it, that doesn't automatically mean it is impossible.

GALAXSAW can evaluate difficult removal projects and determine whether there is a practical way to approach them.

The important distinction is that I don't promise that every difficult item can be removed. I evaluate the actual installation first.

Creative Doesn't Mean Complicated

A custom solution doesn't necessarily mean building something elaborate.

Sometimes the best solution is surprisingly simple.

It could be:

• A small piece of wood in the right location

• A custom-cut bracket

• A modified mounting plate

• An additional support

• A spacer or insert

• A different mounting method

• A carefully modified existing component

• A material being used in an unconventional but appropriate way

The value is not in making the project complicated. The value is in recognizing what the problem actually is and finding a practical way around it.
